Buying at Briggs Auction

  • New to online bidding? Welcome! Click HERE or watch the video above to get started!

  • Online bidding is convenient! You can bid once on any item or bid as many times as you like. You can even set your maximum bid and move on. Payment is all online, and you’ll choose your own pickup time that works for you.

Auctions are posted a minimum of a week prior to the auction close date, and bidding will be open as soon as the auction is posted.

To bid, you’ll need to create an online bidding account, or simply sign in to the auction if you already have one.

The Auction Details for each auction will tell you how bidding will proceed, but typically falls into two categories:

Timed, cascade close: lots will automatically close at the designated time and the designated rate, with a 2-minute extension for last-second bids (so, sorry, there’s no sniping!). The highest bidder at the lot closing wins the lot.

Live online bidding: lots will be open for pre-auction or absentee bids until the designated start date and time, then real-time, i.e. “live” bidding begins. The lots will open one at a time in lot order and will accept bids until there are no more. Then the lot closes and the next lot opens.

At the end of every auction, we will charge the credit card on your account, and will email your invoice to you.

Then stop by our showroom to pick up your winnings: Saturdays from 9AM-3PM, or Mondays-Fridays by appointment.

    It’s that easy!

  • Bi-Weekly Discovery Auctions feature a wide array of items, from antiques to high-end designer furniture to more every-day furnishings, decoratives, fine art, clocks, carpets, china and glassware, collectibles, silver; jewelry, coins, books, toys and games, electronics, appliances, tools, automobiles, and much more. Basically: anything you’d find in any home is possible each auction.

Special Collections showcase significant groupings of items from one (or more) estates or private collections.

Monthly Fine Estates Auctions feature the finest antique and period furniture, decorative and fine art, sterling and silver, estate fine jewelry and Oriental carpets, and more from local estates and collections.

Real Estate Auctions offer the opportunity to bid on and purchase local properties in a competitive but equal format without a protracted process.

  • BUYER’S PREMIUM AND SALES TAX
Like most auction houses, we do charge a Buyer’s Premium. This is a small percentage of the selling price that is added to the purchase price of each item. The buyer’s premium for each auction is stated on that auction page on our website and in the online details for each auction. The PA sales tax of 6% is added to the purchase price including the buyer’s premium unless you have a valid tax exemption number. If so, please make sure we have it before the end of the auction in which you are bidding so we can make sure there’s no tax on your invoice.

    MAXBID
To put in a maximum bid and let the auction do all the work for you, click the “Set Max” button, and enter your maximum bid amount for that item. The auction will automatically advance your bid by the stated bid increment if anyone else bids on that item. If the bidding gets to your maximum bid, you’ll be notified so that you can increase your bid, or not. It’s up to you.

    MY ITEMS
Want to keep track of all the lots you’re interested in? Click the Star in the lot photo, then in the upper right of the listing screen, you’ll see a tab marked “My Items”. Click that to see a list of just the items you’ve starred. You can star any item to keep tabs on it even if you don’t bid on that item. This is a great way to keep track of any lot you’re interested in, as well as a great way to see at a glance if you’ve been outbid.

  • Be sure you read the Terms and Conditions posted for each auction.

Unless otherwise noted, all bidding for our auctions will be online, and merchandise pickup will take place at the Briggs Auction Showroom in Garnet Valley.

By registering to bid and/or submitting any bid, you acknowledge and accept the terms and conditions for that auction.

We thank you for your interest and participation.
